The Scytheville Railroad
The Scytheville RR is a 7-1/4" gauge railroad I'm building in the woods behind our house. We
live in Elkins, New Hampshire, which is now a part of New London, NH,
but 100 years ago was a separate town known as Scytheville because it was home to many
water-powered scythe factories. The factories are long-gone, and Elkins is now
a quiet rural residential area.
I've been into model trains since my parents gave me a Lionel set as a little kid. When I was in 7th grade, I helped a friend rebuild a 7-1/2" RR around their house, and ever since I've wanted my own backyard RR. It took 30 years, but I finally got around to it!
My railroad is named in memory of the industry that used to live here, which included a small
factory railroad! That RR was almost certainly horse- or human-powered, but it had cars that
ran on rails, and that's good enough for me!
